Charles Sturt University research study on pasture growth under solar panels
Spark Renewables collaborates on research and trials that drive the successful long-term co-location of agricultural and renewables projects.
As part of the Bomen Solar Farm Community Fund, established under Westpac and Bomen Solar Farm agreement, Spark Renewables is supporting a three-year research project led by Charles Sturt University to investigate how solar panels impact pasture growth.
The study aims to identify the ideal pasture mix for solar farms - one that thrives under panels, provides quality grazing land, and reduces fire risk.
The project commenced in September 2023, with initial planting having been completed in September to November. Researchers are monitoring plant growth, solar radiation, soil moisture, and biomass across the study sites to deliver insights for sustainable and safe land use under solar infrastructure.
